Which kind of person are you?
What do you do on Sunday mornings? I have a group of clients, about a dozen or so who join me in going for a run. Far from a Sunday stroll we’ll be going up and down hills, sprinting, stair climbs you name it. These are people from all walks of life and of vastly varying fitness levels who come together because they share a common goal. Why do they put themselves through this while everybody else is still asleep? Simple, because they have set themselves goals and they are hell bent on achieving them. They don’t make excuses, they are action takers. Which one are you? An excuse maker or an action taker?
There is a big difference between I am going to do something and getting something done. Sounds obvious I know but all too often I hear a lot of I will or I am going to. You get results from getting things done, plain and simple. Whether it be work, training or life in general. Success is not something that comes easy. I don’t know of too many successful business people who haven’t at some stage put in some absolutely outrageous hours and I don’t know of too many people who have achieved their fitness goals by talking about them. It is no coincidence that the dozen or so who get up at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning and come running are the same dozen or so who never miss a PT session or a bootcamp and do extra training on the side. Guess what? I have never once heard one of them disappointed with their results. It’s definitely not rocket science, do the work consistently and you will be rewarded handsomely.
It’s not that I or my running group wouldn’t like to sleep in on Sunday mornings, far from it. It’s the fact that we are all driven to succeed and achieve in each of our personal endeavours. This is not something that you wake up with a couple of days a week. This is something that sits inside you 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Where can you get it? First you need to be honest with yourself. You need to figure out two things. 1- where you’re at and 2- where you want to be. Would you go in a race if you didn’t know how long it was, where it was going to lead you or who you were racing against? Once you figure out where you want to be the most important piece of the puzzle must be put into place. Action! The time for thinking is over the time for doing has come. Get things done! Take action! Stop talking about what you are going to do and do it! Every decision you make, every action you do or don’t take is either bringing you closer to where you want to be or taking you further away.
Remember if you change nothing, nothing changes. Be an action taker, stop talking about it and get it done!
