Lessons From Mr Magorium
You see in the movie Mr Magorium’s toy shop is essentially alive with “magic” but in essence the magic is a belief – nothing tangible simply the fact that he believes in the power of imagination and with that his store comes alive! Whether that is through the eyes of the observer or it actually comes alive is irrelevant as we only see the world relative to the filters in our own minds.
The interesting part for me…. I mean “my friend” was when it was time for Mr Magorium to leave the world and pass the store on to his assistant – the only problem was that she didn’t believe she had the “magic” that Mr Macgorium had. It wasn’t until someone else saw the magic in her and showed her she had it that she was able to believe enough and sure enough the store came alive and it was as exciting and as magical as ever!
The thing that really jumped out as a lesson or more a realisation is that we all have the magic in us – it’s simply whether or not we see it in ourselves!
The thing that really struck me was how in every day life we walk around putting other people up on a pedestal saying things like “it’s easy for them” or “if I was rich I’d be able to do that to” or “yeh but you’re skinny it’s harder for me…..”
There is one word that I like to say when I hear someone say anything like that…… BULLSHIT!
We all have the same oppurtunities in life it’s simply a matter of you aiming up and taking them!
Mr Macgorium summed it up perfectly when he left his assistant with the words “Your life is an occasion – rise to it!”
I personally got two main lessons from the movie:
- 1)Each and every one of us has “the magic” we just need to find it and live true to it – eg: if you’re good at motivating people, get out there and motivate as many as you can and change the world in the process! If you’re good at caring for people, care for as many as you can and be awesome at it!
- 2)Sometimes people have trouble seeing the magic in themselves so we should be constantly looking for oppurtunities to help people find their magic! If you see someone do a great job – tell them, you are reinforcing the fact that they have something special inside them that helps make the world a better place!
To put it another way – the world needs your magic! If you deprive it of that you are ripping it and the rest of us off!
